Conservative Wordsmith writes: If you are a conservative Republican, you are probably happier than your liberal Democrat colleagues, friends, and relatives. When I became a conservative, I definitely noticed right away that I felt happier than when I was a liberal. Why? I think part of the reason is that being a liberal requires one to automatically be angry and irrational about the world’s problems. Of course neither one of these traits is associated with happiness. Liberals like to think that they care passionately for all of the downtrodden people, and that they are capable of solving their misery. However, most of this passion is idealistic, and, when put into actual practice, never amounts to much improvement in anyone’s life.
Conservatives really are passionate about solving the world’s problems. The ongoing situation in Iraq is a perfect example. Liberal Democrats don’t really care about the people in Iraq having a democratic government or about the women there being liberated. Conservative Republicans are the true heroes of the Iraqi people. One would think that the opposite would be true – that liberals would be the compassionate, caring people in this situation. It is obvious that they are not, and that historical evidence will show that President Bush made the right decision to invade Iraq, and dethrone Saddam Hussein.
Are you having trouble being a happy person? Then here is a challenge for you. Why not try giving up your liberal ideologies for just one week, and try to think like a conservative? If you are truly an open-minded person (don’t all liberals claim that they are?), then you should be willing to try this as an experiment, if nothing else. You have nothing to lose except your constant unhappiness, so why not give it a try? If you suddenly discover the hidden happiness that you lost a long time ago, you will not wish to return to the liberal path.
