Why America Is Unique - Part 3

Conservative Wordsmith Susan Baldwin writes: Is there some mysterious connection between Mitt Romney, Mormonism, and William Tyndale? Read my 4-part series "Why America Is Unique" and find out the surprising answer. This post is a reprint of part 3.

Why America Is Unique - Part 3

Mitt Romney vs. Evangelical Christians--what road will they take? Does Governor Romney have a chance? I think so. At this very moment, there are 60,656 posts about Mitt Romney at technorati.com.
(My "Why America Is Unique" series is also posted at this site.)

Does this indicate a sincere interest in Governor Romney? It would seem that way. What is it about him that inspires so much writing? Is it mainly because he is a Mormon? Or is there also something else about the man that sparks an interest in bloggers? Perhaps it is also because he is a moral person. Maybe Americans want a President whose mind is more occupied with world events, with trying to prevent another 9/11, than with trivialities.

Evangelicals have not previously even considered Mormons as being Christians. They consider them to be a cult, not a bonafide religion.  Some Mormon beliefs are different, and would be seen by certain Evangelicals as not being in conformity with the doctrine of "sola scriptura." I have also been guilty of this type of thinking in the past, but it took a man from the 16th century named William Tyndale, (who I have repeatedly referred to in Parts 1 and 2 of this series), to open my eyes. I almost feel as if I know the man, having seen some recent films about his life, and reading a little bit of his commentaries.

I can't stress enough how important he was, and is, to our modern democracy here in America. I do not believe that he would have been against Mitt Romney being President of the United States, because even though he was the Evangelical of all Evangelicals, he was tolerant because he was treated with so much intolerance. (For more information about William Tyndale, there are many web sites. I particularly like the Friends of William Tyndale at
www.williamtyndale.com
).

I would ask Evangelicals to remember their history, how their ancestors were persecuted, tortured, strangled, and even burned at the stake for their religious beliefs. Do you want to be just like the corrupted so-called Christians that perpetrated these acts? Tolerance or Intolerance, that is the question.
