Why America Is Unique - Part 4
America is truly a unique country, a place where people have the ability to pursue their dreams, even though all dreams do not come true. But it is the freedom to be able to try to do what one wants to do in life that makes America special. That is why so many people want to make this country their home.
I would like to explore further the subject of Governor Mitt Romney and his unique position as a Mormon. I understand why some evangelicals would oppose a Mormon becoming President of the United States. Referring again back to William Tyndale, (see Parts 1-3 in my "Why America Is Unique" series), even if Mormons had been around at that time, and one of them was running for some kind of office, Tyndale would not have tried to prevent him from doing so. He would not have persecuted or tortured that person either. There is a big difference between what one believes about another person's religion, and what one's actions are in reference to that.
In America, a person has the right to think that everyone else is going to go to hell one day, and to try to persuade others to convert to one's own religion, but it is not acceptable to try and prevent that person from practicing his religion or from becoming President. And, if that person refuses to convert, he or she cannot legally be forced.
There are, at this very moment, blog posts that refer to Mitt Romney as the devil and also mention that he is going to hell. These posts are written with the intention of trying to prevent him from having the chance of becoming President. This is not in accordance with the Godly principles upon which America was founded. Jesus said that those who were not against Him were for him. Is Mitt Romney against Him? I think not.
