Conservative Wordsmith Susan Baldwin writes: Christopher Hitchens has written a best selling book called God Is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything. He wants to brainwash everyone in the known universe that God does not exist, and that, even if He did exist, He would be evil.
It isn't God that is evil. Some people do evil acts in the name of religion and pervert the truth. In fact, God weeps when people commit evil. In the New Testament of the Bible, there is a prayer called The Lord's Prayer. In this prayer, Jesus taught his followers to pray that God's will would be done on earth as it is in Heaven. If Mr. Hitchens is right, then God's will must be for human beings to be sinners, rather than to save them from their sins.
We who believe have no doubts that Mr. Hitchens is terribly wrong. The very idea of needing a Savior to save us from our sins means that God does not want us to sin. Sinning is evil in His eyes. That is why He sent His Son to earth.
His Son, Jesus, is the Healer, the Comforter, the One who points out the way, the right road to walk on; He even will walk with us, because He is the Way, the Truth and the Life. He is the Divine Forgiver. But He wants us to "go, and sin no more." This is what He told the woman who committed adultery, and this is what he tells us. (See John 8:3-11):

I don't know who Mr. Hitchens turns to for consolation, since he does not believe God exists. Perhaps he turns to all of the money he is making from his book. While he is getting richer, his readers that believe in his "atheistic" religion are getting poorer, because those who do not believe in God may as well be penniless. All of the riches in the world will never save them. A life without God is a sad life indeed.
