Conservative Wordsmith Susan Baldwin writes: I wish all of you a very Happy New Year, and encourage you to make resolutions that not only apply to your physical well-being, such as losing weight, or stopping a bad habit. These are good things in and of themselves, but New Year's Day should also be a time for reflection about one's life.
How is your life going right now? Are you truly happy? Are you accomplishing the many ideas that have been stirring inside your mind and soul, or are you just ignoring them due to the pressing needs of everyday life? Benjamin Franklin knew the value of time when he wrote the following words:
"You may delay, but time will not." 1
Benjamin Franklin
"Never leave that till tomorrow which you can do today." 1
Benjamin Franklin
I think that life is difficult for most of us, in different degrees and on varying levels. The beginning of this New Year could actually be looked at as being given the opportunity for having a second chance to right your past wrongs and start making good decisions, instead of the bad ones you often made before. Some people, perhaps many, have dug themselves into psychological holes from which there seems to be no escape.
But there is always a way to get out of that hole. Do not despair. Instead, think really hard about the gifts that God gave you and whether you are using them or not. Look closely at those special dreams that have stirred your soul, and continue to do so now. Would others maybe even benefit from them? Chances are very good that this would be the case.
Why not start today, on this special first day of the New Year? You have nothing to lose. You might even be pleasantly surprised at the unexpected plot twist that could unfold in your life, leading you to new opportunities and experiences that you never dreamed would be possible. The Lord might have great plans for you that will only unfold when you make an attempt to discover them, and then put them into action.
