California Supreme Court's Decision: Past Same-Sex Marriages Legal, New Same-Sex Marriages Illegal (!!??)

Conservative Wordsmith Susan Baldwin writes: The California Supreme Court ruled on Tuesday, May 26 that same-sex (otherwise known as gay) marriages are now illegal. However, there are 18,000 literal exceptions to this ruling (the same-sex couples that got hitched in 2008).

A Memorial Day Observance Speech

"On May 5, 1868, an order issued by General John Logan established a day of remembrance for those soldiers who died during the Civil War. May 30, 1868, was the day designated for this observance and flowers were placed on the graves of the fallen soldiers of both the Union and Confederate Armies. New York was the first state to officially recognize this observance in 1873 and in 1971 with the passage of the National Holiday Act; Memorial Day was designated as the last Monday of May."
 
"Memorial Day for all soldiers is embodied in the words of the oath that you first take when you enlist into the service of the country:

I DO SOLEMNLY SWEAR (OR AFFIRM) THAT I WILL SUPPORT AND DEFEND THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES AGAINST ALL ENEMIES, FOREIGN AND DOMESTIC; THAT I WILL BEAR TRUE FAITH AND ALLEGIANCE TO THE SAME; AND THAT I WILL OBEY THE ORDERS OF THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES AND THE ORDERS OF THE OFFICERS APPOINTED OVER ME, ACCORDING TO REGULATIONS AND THE UNIFORM CODE OF MILITARY JUSTICE. SO HELP ME GOD."

HEADQUARTERS GRAND ARMY OF THE REPUBLIC

General Orders No.11, WASHINGTON, D.C., May 5, 1868


  1. The 30th day of May, 1868, is designated for the purpose of strewing with flowers or otherwise decorating the graves of comrades who died in defense of their country during the late rebellion, and whose bodies now lie in almost every city, village, and hamlet church-yard in the land. In this observance no form of ceremony is prescribed, but posts and comrades will in their own way arrange such fitting services and testimonials of respect as circumstances may permit.

    We are organized, comrades, as our regulations tell us, for the purpose among other things, "of preserving and strengthening those kind and fraternal feelings which have bound together the soldiers, sailors, and marines who united to suppress the late rebellion." What can aid more to assure this result than cherishing tenderly the memory of our heroic dead, who made their breasts a barricade between our country and its foes? Their soldier lives were the reveille of freedom to a race in chains, and their deaths the tattoo of rebellious tyranny in arms. We should guard their graves with sacred vigilance. All that the consecrated wealth and taste of the nation can add to their adornment and security is but a fitting tribute to the memory of her slain defenders. Let no wanton foot tread rudely on such hallowed grounds. Let pleasant paths invite the coming and going of reverent visitors and fond mourners. Let no vandalism of avarice or neglect, no ravages of time testify to the present or to the coming generations that we have forgotten as a people the cost of a free and undivided republic.

    If other eyes grow dull, other hands slack, and other hearts cold in the solemn trust, ours shall keep it well as long as the light and warmth of life remain to us.

    Let us, then, at the time appointed gather around their sacred remains and garland the passionless mounds above them with the choicest flowers of spring-time; let us raise above them the dear old flag they saved from hishonor; let us in this solemn presence renew our pledges to aid and assist those whom they have left among us a sacred charge upon a nation's gratitude, the soldier's and sailor's widow and orphan.

     

  2. It is the purpose of the Commander-in-Chief to inaugurate this observance with the hope that it will be kept up from year to year, while a survivor of the war remains to honor the memory of his departed comrades. He earnestly desires the public press to lend its friendly aid in bringing to the notice of comrades in all parts of the country in time for simultaneous compliance therewith.

     

  3. Department commanders will use efforts to make this order effective.

Jack Bauer and The Muslim Imam: Questions "24" Fans Around The World Are Asking

Conservative Wordsmith Susan Baldwin writes: Jack Bauer, a fictional character portrayed by Kiefer Sutherland in Fox TV's 24, has guided a vast amount of visitors from all over the world to both of my sites since I began writing about the 7th season's final episode this past Tuesday.
 
These are the questions many people around the world, including countries located in the Middle East, are asking: Why did the dying Jack Bauer ask to speak to the Muslim Imam in the first place, and did Jack Bauer actually convert to Islam and become a Muslim? Has Jack Bauer actually embraced Islam now, after having pursued, caught, and even tortured several extreme Muslim Jihadist terrorists in previous episodes and seasons?
 
You now have the opportunity to vote on this at my CONSERVATIVE WORDSMITH.COM site, www.conservativewordsmith.com. The poll closes on May 29, 2009. It only takes a minute to choose one or several answers, invented by the Wordsmith, out of a possible 10. In the meantime, the larger, and even more important question, is: why do so many people care passionately about any of this, since Jack Bauer isn't even a real person? Jack Bauer obviously represents something important in the minds of many viewers.

Conservative Wordsmith Susan Baldwin writes: As most of you know, Kiefer Sutherland's character Jack Bauer on Fox TV's 24 has been America's favorite hero for the past several years. Due to the immense popularity of my recent Jack Bauer's Deathbed Confession to a Muslim Imam series of posts, based on 24's Season 7, which aired on Monday night, I  instituted my first Exclusive Conservative Politically Incorrect Poll, consisting of 10 original answers which you may pick and choose in order to cast your vote.
 
After a bit of difficulty, I finally got the Poll up and running properly on my CONSERVATIVE WORDSMITH.COM site during the wee hours of the morning. The name of the Poll is Did Jack Bauer Convert To Islam During His Deathbed Confession to The Muslim Imam?
 
In case you missed it, go to www.conservativewordsmith.com, and you will see the Poll at the top of the left side bar on my Home Page. The Poll closes on May 29, so if you want to cast your vote, better hurry!
 
As stated earlier, there are 10 possible answers, and voters have the option to click on multiple choices. Oh Jack Bauer, Where Art Thou? Or The 24 Jack Bauer/Muslim Imam Connection

Fans of Fox TV's 24 are still dismayed by Jack Bauer's sudden and unexpected deathbed confession to a Muslim imam. Jack Bauer, as portrayed by actor Kiefer Sutherland, has never before expressed any interest whatsoever in Islam or in converting to Islam and becoming a Muslim. Bear in mind that 24 has been on television for a long time, this being it's 7th season.
