Conservative Wordsmith Susan Baldwin writes: Mitt Romney received another conservative endorsement, this time from National Review, on Tuesday, December 11. 1 National Review is a well-known and respected conservative publication with a long history. The political magazine National Review was founded by conservative thinker, commentator, columnist, and author William F. Buckley, Jr. in 1955. 2
"The magazine said in its endorsement that the former Massachusetts governor is a 'natural ally of social conservatives,' who with his across-the-board conservative views is the candidate most likely to unite that coalition." 1
"'Unlike some other candidates in the race, Romney is a full-spectrum conservative: a supporter of free-market economics and limited government, moral causes such as the right to life and the preservation of marriage, and a foreign policy based on the national interest,' the endorsement said." 1
"As for Romney's Mormon faith, which the candidate addressed during a speech last week in Texas, National Review wrote: 'For some people, Romney’s Mormonism is still a barrier. But we are not electing a pastor.'" 1

Here is yet another extremely conservative endorsement for Governor Mitt Romney, in spite of his Mormon faith. If only more evangelical Christians could grasp the point stated in the National Review that "we are not electing a pastor."
Are Americans electing the next U.S. President or the next evangelical Christian pastor for a fictional Church of America? Sometimes I must pause to wonder if that is indeed what some evangelical Christian commentators are thinking when they point out to me their perceived "faults" of Mormonism. And oh, how they love to condemn Mormons to the pit of eternal Hell!
The truth is, though, that Jesus Christ, the Lord and Savior of evangelical Christians, indeed Christians of all denominations, including Roman Catholics, Eastern Orthodox Christians, and Mormons, taught his followers to be tolerant, even though this has not always been historically understood or practiced. Unfortunately, there are still those today that don't recognize Jesus' teachings on this very important matter.
I have written extensively on the topic of religious tolerance, and of the cruelties of religious intolerance. You may click on my related posts, listed below, to read my views.
