Conservative Wordsmith Susan Baldwin writes: Mitt Romney and Ann Romney, now famous Mormons, may well be the next conservative Republican U.S. President and First Lady. I have written two posts within the past couple of days in which I officially announced my support for them. I have unofficially supported them for over four months now, since I first began my Conservative Wordsmith Weblog at Townhall. I wasn't 100% sure until I saw a recent interview on KCAL 9 with Ann Romney, and that enabled me to jump that extra 1 or 2% over the hurdle of doubt and uncertainty.
Yesterday, I wrote in my post, "Mitt and Ann Amazing Mormon Grace," that Ann had mentioned, in a recent KCAL 9 interview, the fact that Mormons have not approved of the practice of polygamy since either 1820 or 1870. I mentioned that I was not 100% certain of the date, as I was writing from my recollection of the interview, and was unable, on a quick glance, to find it on KCAL 9.
In the meantime, a very knowledgeable blogger, whose excellent Mormon blog I was not previously familiar with, was kind enough to send me an email last night, in which he informed me of the exact dates, so I present the corrected facts to you now. According to blogger Alma Allred, polygamy has not been recognized by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints since 1890 in the United States, and since 1904 worldwide. His blog, "ByteLine - Comments On Religion And Politics", appears to be a fine resource. Please see the link below.*
I also recommend that you read my previous Mitt and Ann Romney posts, plus my other extensive Mormon-related material, exploring the idea of Christian tolerance toward Mormons. Evangelical Christians should not let their personal taboos, falsely perceiving Mormons to be a dangerous cult, deter them from voting for the presidential candidate with the most similar values.
