Conservative Wordsmith Susan Baldwin writes: Idaho Republican Senator Larry Craig's recent arrest in an airport restroom demonstrates that some conservatives definitely lie and cheat. Immoral acts do not exclusively belong to either liberal Democrats or conservative Republicans. Conservatives lie, deceive, cheat on their spouses, get involved in immoral acts, watch movies that no person should ever watch, and generally do bad things.
In spite of all this, I believe that conservatives try harder than liberals to be ethical and moral, because these values are at the core of conservatism. It is also for this reason that I believe that, as a whole, conservatives, as opposed to liberals, are making the right choices on a daily basis more often than not. Are there many conservatives, especially conservative Christians, who live their daily lives in deception? I don't profess to know how many there are, but I hope their numbers are few. I do know that all conservatives are not innocent.
Who can Americans look up to, when those who should set the best examples disappoint? Who can American children look up to when conservatives don't seem to be any better than the most leftist liberals in their understanding of what it means to be moral and ethical in every way? I don't know what Bible these people are reading, but it certainly isn't the one I'm familiar with. Every time a conservative does something like this, I am dismayed. I can't comprehend how people professing to be conservatives can be willing to set such bad examples for others, and destroy their marriages, for a night or two on the town.
People who want to indulge in sexual immorality have no business getting married in the first place. They hurt their spouses and their children with irreparable wounds. They should remain single and keep their darkness to themselves.
