Conservative Wordsmith Susan Baldwin writes: What causes Americans to become antiwar protestors? It isn't just the war in Iraq; there have been demonstrators as long as there have been human beings. Do these protestors really care about the soldiers that are fighting for them, and are they truly concerned for their welfare? Or are they only interested in themselves, in fighting for a pacifistic ideal that they have latched onto, and vehemently believe in as though it were a religion?
Do they spend their evenings praying for America and for President Bush, asking God to help in some way? I would venture a guess that most of these people do not believe in a personal God, and do not pray. They might meditate, but not about the protection of our troops. They probably meditate in order to calm themselves down from all of their anger, which causes stress.
If they are truly pacifists, how does anger play a role in all of this? Isn't anger the opposite of peace? Where is their peace? Perhaps it is in the comforting knowledge that they believe they are doing something good for America, and for the world, by protesting against the Iraq War. In fact, they are causing friction in Americans and in the morale of our troops.
Soldiers risk their lives daily, and of all the possible careers that are available, theirs is one of the most, if not the most, difficult. They need our support, and words of encouragement. They need to know that we are grateful for their sacrifices.
