Does God Prefer Words Or Silence?

Conservative Wordsmith Susan Baldwin writes: There is one thing all liberals and conservatives have in common, and that is talking. Silence is sometimes missed. I often like to walk early on Sunday mornings. There is hardly any traffic then, and silence pervades the atmosphere, even in a city that normally pulses with the whirring sounds of cars, driven by people that always seem to be in a hurry.

I enjoy seeing flocks of morning doves flying over my head, and then landing on a telephone pole wire, all of them standing in a row like morning soldiers watching over everyone. A squirrel eating breakfast was once startled by my approaching footsteps, and reluctantly abandoned his meal out of fear. I watched him drop his precious food, and dart through a hole in the wired fence. This little creature had no way of knowing that I meant no harm.

I have also seen white lilies growing out of one of the sidewalk openings where trees, plants, or weeds normally grow. Someone had taken the time to lovingly plant them in that one spot. I am always awed when I see them in their pristine whiteness, especially because there are so few, and it is like looking at an endangered species. I have seen a fat cat curiously walking on the other side of the street, looking for some new adventure. An occasional jogger has run by me, taking the time to smile and nod.

Silence sometimes speaks more than words. In silence one can feel the presence of God, His utter peacefulness, joy, and love; also His empathy for our plight, our sorrows, and our defeats. In the midst of this silence, I think about my blog, and if any of my posts will encourage someone, or help someone to better understand the difference between liberal and conservative ideologies and principles.

It is important to me to express my thoughts as clearly as possible, and to use the right words, because words can have a powerful effect on our lives, whether for good or evil. Does God prefer words or
silence? Even though words are the seeming opposite of silence, they are both somehow intricately connected, and somewhere in their midst is a great mystery.
