Amish Soldiers?

Conservative Wordsmith Susan Baldwin writes: Amish people are exempt from the military because they are pacifists. Does the New Testament teach that it is wrong to be a soldier? Evidently John the Baptist did not think so. When some soldiers asked him what they should do, he said: ..."Do not take money from anyone by force, or accuse {anyone} falsely, and be content with your wages." (NASB)

I once heard a radio preacher, whose name I do not know, preach on this subject. (I only heard him that one time). He said something like this: that if being a soldier was wrong, John would have told them to quit the military and do something else with their lives. Instead, he told them to be content with their wages, which implies that what they were doing was perfectly fine.

There are many religious soldiers, especially Christians, and they are fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan to protect our country (yes, that includes the Amish also). Sunday, June 17th is Father's Day, and I am sure that all of the soldiers miss being with their children. I hope their children appreciate the many sacrifices that are being made for them on a daily basis. Soldiers, you are risking your lives for your families, your country, and me. I salute you all.
