Conservative Wordsmith Susan Baldwin writes: The New Hampshire primary is Tuesday, January 8. These are what the New Hampshire figures look like on Monday, January 7, according to a CNN-WMUR poll that was conducted from Saturday night, January 5 through Sunday evening, January 6.
Republican Presidential Candidates
1. John McCain - 31%
2. Mitt Romney - 26%
3. Mike Huckabee - 13%
4. Rudy Giuliani - 10%
5. Ron Paul - tied with Rudy Giuliani at 10%
6. Duncan Hunter - 1%
7. Fred Thompson - tied with Duncan Hunter at 1%
Democratic Presidential Candidates
1. Barack Obama - 39%
2. Hillary Clinton - 30%
3. John Edwards - 16%
4. Bill Richardson - 7%
5. Dennis Kucinich - 1%
6. Mike Gravel - less than 1/2 of 1%
"The CNN/WMUR polls is consistent with six other non-partisan polls taken since the Iowa caucuses. All seven polls show Obama leading Clinton by margins ranging from 1 to 13 points -- with the average Obama lead at 7 points. All the polls show Edwards in third place."
"The poll, conducted by the University of New Hampshire, surveyed 599 likely Democrats and 492 Republicans likely to vote in Tuesday's primary. It had a sampling error of 4 percentage points."
"Crucial to the outcome in New Hampshire are the state's independent voters, who make up around 40 percent of the electorate, and who can vote in either party's primary."
"With time running out, 6 percent of likely Democratic primary voters and 5 percent of those likely to vote in the GOP primary remain undecided."
"The poll indicates that a growing number of registered independents say they will vote in the GOP contest, which is a switch from just a month ago."

Author’s Note: Will Romney still win the Gold in New Hampshire? Anything is possible, especially due to the fact that, according to the CNN article cited above, independent voters in New Hampshire make up 40% of the electorate, and 5% of GOP primary voters are still undecided. This means that there are still many folks in New Hampshire that could surprise all of us.
Also, there are a lot less evangelical Christians in New Hampshire than there are in Iowa, which could swing the vote favorably toward Mitt Romney. Mitt’s Mormon faith does not seem to have been a problem for him in New Hampshire, as it clearly was in Iowa. *Please see my related post.
