Al Gore Wins Nobel Peace Prize - Why???

Conservative Wordsmith Susan Baldwin writes: Al Gore and the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change share in the victory of winning the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize on Friday, October 12. I don't fully understand the implication that the dangers of global warming are an imminent danger to world peace. Do liberals even comprehend what is truly dangerous? Is global warming more dangerous than Jihadist terrorists could ever hope to be? Is global warming more toxic than any number of evils that immediately come to mind?

Here is the explanation from the Norwegian Nobel Committee as to why global warming could cause terrible violence and wars everywhere: "The Norwegian Nobel Committee said global warming 'may induce large-scale migration and lead to greater competition for the Earth's resources. Such changes will place particularly heavy burdens on the world's most vulnerable countries. There may be increased danger of violent conflicts and wars, within and between states.'" 1

Three key words in the last sentence cited above are significant: "There may be." A potential possibility of worldwide doom is not a reason to award the Nobel Peace Prize. It is supposed to be awarded to someone who is actually doing something to promote world peace; instead, the Norwegian Nobel Committee made the decision to give the award to a hypothetical peacemaker. Since Al Gore helps to contribute to global warming more than the average person (see my two previous posts, "Al Gore Causes Global Warming??? - Parts 1 and 2"),** this even makes the prize seem more laughable.
