Conservative Wordsmith Susan Baldwin writes: This reprint was originally published on July 26, 2007. I recently wrote a letter to President George W. Bush. It is something I had thought about doing for a long time and finally decided last week to tell him my thoughts about himself and his presidency. In the midst of his ongoing humiliation and criticism from many, I wanted to let him know that there are some Americans that have supported him, and continue to do so. Here is an excerpt from my letter:
"I want to thank you for remaining true to yourself and your convictions. You are one of the few great presidents this American has ever known. I am so sorry that you have had to make so many difficult decisions during your two terms as President of the United States of America. Who could have foreseen such a tragedy as 9/11? You are a true hero in my eyes, and I am grateful for your leadership. I greatly admire your keen intelligence, courage, Christian faith, sense of humor, and your ability to make decisions and not waver from them, regardless of opposing opinions. You are truly a godly man who has set a good example for many that look up to you as I do."
You may also read some intelligent and charming letters written to President Bush by children and teens ranging from the ages of 6 through 14. These letters are sample entries that were submitted to a national Dear Mr. President letter-writing campaign sponsored, in part, by Winslow Press. Some of them won prizes. This website is also a goldmine of historical information including such topics as an excerpt from Thomas Jefferson's weather journals, and 19th century newspapers. It even includes video and audio files.
