Ken Burns' PBS War Film Riveting

Conservative Wordsmith Susan Baldwin writes: Ken Burns' The War is a seven-part PBS series about World War II that premiered on Sunday, September 23, 2007. I compiled a list of episode titles for your convenience, so that you may check your local PBS station for the broadcast time of each of the seven parts, as PBS schedules may differ depending on where one lives.

The War

Part 1: "A Necessary War"

Part 2: "When Things Get Tough"

Part 3: "A Deadly Calling"

Part 4: "Pride of Our Nation"

Part 5: "FUBAR"

Part 6: "The Ghost Front"

Part 7: "A World Without War"

Thanks to KCET for the above episode titles.*

Ken Burns' PBS documentary series The War is approximately 15 hours in length, so make sure you don't miss any of the episodes. An additional Ken Burns' interview was also shown on KCET. Los Angeles based KCET announced on Sunday, September 30, that The War will be rebroadcast on Wednesday nights throughout October. It is possible that other PBS stations across America are going to be showing 'The War' in October also, either for the first time, or as repeats.

I encourage all of my readers to watch this series in its entirety. The War included many different ways of looking at World War II; the documentary is not one-sided. The Holocaust is covered in depth, and includes film footage, as well as firsthand accounts described by veterans that actually saw some of the atrocities committed by Adolph Hitler and the Nazis. There are moments in The War that are so poignant that they make the viewer cry.

Liberals have always protested wars, and don't seem to have any real comprehension of the fact that even though it is true that war must, by necessity, take lives, it is equally true that war more often prevents the further destruction of lives. There would probably not be any more Jews in the world at all today had it not been for World War II. If Hitler had not been stopped, every Jew in Europe would have been killed. He had already succeeded in murdering six million Jews.

But maybe it's a point that liberals don't want to understand, because many liberals hate Jews, and would probably be glad if there weren't any more Jews in the world today at all. In fact, they would probably be very happy if Israel didn't exist, and happier still if all Jews were deported from Israel, and Palestinians, including Hamas terrorists, became its exclusive rulers and citizens.
