Ken Burns' PBS War Series Not Slanted

Conservative Wordsmith Susan Baldwin writes: The War, a Ken Burns film, began tonight, September 23, on PBS stations across America. Based on Part 1, called "A Necessary War," I highly recommend this seven-part documentary series, which will be broadcast several evenings this week and next week, totaling approximately fifteen hours. Episodes will be rebroadcast on KCET in Los Angeles, California all day next Sunday, September 30, beginning at 10:00 AM.

The War
looks at all aspects of World War II through the eyes of military veterans, and others, chosen from four American towns; I was engrossed in their stories, as they discussed their memories and reflections. The War is richly illustrated through historical film footage and narration. This series, based on what I saw tonight, does not appear to be politically slanted toward the left.

The War
is factual, and, if anything, seems to have more of a conservative edge. For example, two veterans talked about the fact that they were pacifists until they joined the military, and then changed their minds. Since I have written extensively about the potential evils of pacifism, I was interested to hear them express these views.
