Conservative Wordsmith Susan Baldwin writes: Mitt Romney, a Mormon, still has an outstanding chance to become America's next Republican President. I plan to cover his Republican Presidential Campaign from now on, as I explained in a previous post. This former post also covered his excellent speech, which coincided with the start of the U.S. Supreme Court term.*
I am convinced that Mitt's wife, Ann Romney, would be an incredible First Lady, a true role model that conservative women, including conservative Christian women like myself, would look up to for guidance and inspiration.
I am not interested in the conservative stance of some Evangelical Christians that think they have exclusive rights to the Kingdom of Heaven, and do not tolerate those that don't fit into their mold. In the recent interview that I saw with Ann Romney on the Los Angeles based KCAL 9 television station, she mentioned that polygamy has not been accepted in the Mormon faith since either 1820 or 1870 (writing this from what I recall).** Please see my Addendum post for the corrected date, plus other related material.
So Evangelical Christians that like to point their fingers at Mormons, and, consequently at Mitt and Ann Romney, had better look to themselves, as their clean slate of marital fidelity is flawed.
Ted Haggard, the former President of the National Association of Evangelicals, and former Pastor of a huge megachurch, New Life Church, was having a secret homosexual affair behind his wife's back, while proclaiming Christ to the world in interviews on major television stations. Haggard was caught, and he resigned from both of these positions in November of 2006.*** In August of 2007, the former Idaho Republican Senator Larry Craig was caught having an indiscreet homosexual moment in an airport restroom, embarrassing his unsuspecting wife.****
Divorce is also common among Evangelical Christians, in spite of their vehement protests against it, so Mitt and Ann Romney, having been married for 38 years, certainly excel in this regard. I would say that the old saying "Actions speak louder than words" apply to the extremely moral and ethical lives that Mitt and Ann Romney have been leading for their entire adult lives, and to the unethical lives that some Christians lead.
