Conservative Wordsmith Susan Baldwin writes: Benjamin Franklin and Mitt Romney match wits on the subject of death and taxation. However, Benjamin Franklin said that taxes are as certain as death, whereas Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney says that he doesn't think paying unnecessary taxes, whether in life or after death, is fair, and he wants to change America's tax laws accordingly.* If Mitt Romney has his way, Benjamin Franklin's famous quote will no longer hold as much weight, at least not in America.
Benjamin Franklin:
"But in this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes."
Benjamin Franklin quote - Letter to Jean Baptiste Le Roy
(1789)
Mitt Romney:
"'It's not fair that you have to pay taxes when you earn your money, when you save your money and then when you die,'" Romney says in the television ad." 1
